Langsett Avenue [Sheffield | Extension]

DesignXY Ltd director, Kris Barry, provides services as architect on this rear kitchen extension and remodelling project, for a family home on Langsett Avenue, Sheffield.

The Client’s brief was for a rear extension to their property to bring unity between the house, garden and family.

After submitting the scheme to the Local Authority, it became clear that the Planning Officer had concerns over the scale of the proposals and the effect it would have on the neighbouring properties light levels. The 3D model that had been used to create the design proposals was utilised to generate sun-path analysis to prove the extension would cause minimal overshadowing.

The elevations of the extension incorporated many of the design features of the main house, including the slate covering, imperial brick sizes to ensure the coursing was the same and the swept window heads.

The Client had wanted to make sure there was a seamless integration of the new extension with the existing house. Some features of the existing house were upgraded and modernised as part of the works.
