Spring Grove Gardens | Wharncliffe Side

The existing four storey house required some re-planning to make better use of the existing spaces.

At ground floor the kitchen, dining room and hallway were altered to be better proportioned for use by the family. An external breakfast balcony was provided off the new open plan kitchen-diner to provide flexibility to increase the internal dining area in nice weather and to make the most of the stunning views to the rear of the house over the wooded valley below. Potential overlooking issues into the neighbour’s garden were addressed as an integral part of the design through a acid-etched glazed screen, which also doubled up as a privacy screen for our Client.

The existing smaller bedrooms at first floor were extended over the garage with en-suite shower rooms added to each. Externally the design was detailed to give a seamless, unnoticeable alteration to the existing front elevation. The existing attic conversion took advantage of the extended roof space over the new first floor extension to provide a master dressing room and better proportioned master en-suite.

With access to the garden being from the lower ground floor level, a further small extension was added to provide a laundry area that multi-functions as a barbecue and outdoor eating preparation kitchen.

The Client wanted to make better use of the garden and by providing this facility at the same level, much more family time is spent outside.
